Education

The Education, Jnana path is used to implement human values through providing Bal Vikas programme for children. Sathya Sai Baba's mission is to repair the ancient high-way to dharmic life based on the noble ideals of flawless character, humility, and selfless service.

In Japan, the centers and groups offering Bal Vikas programmes are increasing. English programmes are currently offered in Kobe, Yokohama, Okinawa and Kawasaki.

Bal Vikas programme is set up primarily to instill in children the teachings of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, so as to help them to manifest their own Divinity. It is designed to teach the five basic human values of truth (Sathya), right conduct (Dharma), love (Prema), peace (Shanti), and non-violence (Ahimsa), and conducts spiritual education classes for children organised by dedicated volunteer teachers, through prayers, meditation, story-telling, group bhajans, and group activities.

Sathya Sai Baba says, "The aim of Bal Vikas is something more fundamental and it is a far higher aim. Our aim is to mold the mentality of the child, of regulating his habits in an ideal manner, etc.  The aim is to bring in a transformation in the child andnot merely burdening him with information. The children are with us at the most highly impressionable age of their lives. It is at this susceptible age that they are tempted into telling lies, acquire improper language and mode of talking and picking up   unwholesome habits. We have to impress on them with kind words the life-long evil consequences of bad habits acquired at their young-age and convince and put them on the right path, help them to develop into ideal children."

"The hearts and minds of the children are very tender and what is taught to them at this tender age will be imprinted on their hearts and will form the foundation of their later lives. These young children have certain capacities which will not be possessed by grown-ups. In their tender hearts and minds, there is a potentiality by which we can make them go close to God; with such devotion and attachment that you will not find parallel in grown-ups.

This potential is special to the tenderness of their hearts. So, do not make the mistake of thinking that they are just children and do not know anything. Understand the great potential in children and let them walk on the Godward path."

"While teaching with Love, there must also be present the aspect of Discipline. Discipline must be given to children when their physical, mental and spiritual abilities are developing so that they can control and reform their minds, desires and senses."

"Man should transform to become compassionate. Of what use is that education which does not melt the heart of the student to the plight of others? Modern secular education is just making man hard-hearted. Just as you try hard to sharpen your intellect, you should broaden your heart also. If this fact is not realised, of what use if your intelligence and learning?"
